Randall cares about dinosaurs the way the guy in La La Land cares about jazz. It's this deeply unhealthy obsession where he doesn't care about the thing so much as he cares about demonstrating that he cares about it more than you. Face it Randall, dinosaurs are over. No one wants a dragon with feathers.

(Repeat of 737) I agree that this is a stupid contest (never a good sign when the punchline is that your comic is stupid), but why the age correction? Is it more impressive for a younger person to find expired things? That's really just allowing your grandkids to benefit from your painstaking years of storing old cans.
Bonus "I have a girlfriend you guys" in the alt text

Is the joke that this is what she actually does, that she wishes this was what she actually did, or that in reality not only are probiotics totally bogus but even the way we study them is totally bogus?
Bonus "it's really hard being smart" in the alt text

This could have been fun, if there was any kind of progression. Instead, it's a bunch of lazy ideas thrown together in what I estimate to have been about 3 minutes. It ends up being a great example of what I mean when I say XKCD is Garfieldian, as a sort of greatest-hits digest of lazy internet nerd humor: "omg cloning", "omg statistics", "omg trolley problems", "omg meta", and of course "omg Salvador Dali".

Black Hat Guy has declined to such an extent that he basically signifies a "/s", which is used by people on Reddit, Ars Technica comments sections, and other hives of unreconstructed bugmannery to indicate that they have absolutely zero faith in the ability of their interlocutors to grasp sarcasm.

Every concept in this comic can be found in the Wikipedia article for "shadow biosphere", which as of this writing has 913 words (counting all the references and additional reading, but not counting any of the sidebar).

Ha ha yes I too remember watching "Powers of Ten" during my fourth grade field trip to the local planetarium. It's that last entry that really makes this-- "handing out raw floating point variables" is a true side-splitter.
