The worst comic strips in the newspaper were always the overtly political ones like Mallard Fillmore and Doonesbury. The authors had neither the meager erudition required to write a real column nor the wit to make their points in a single panel, and so instead subjected their audiences to whatever arguments they played out in the shower that week.

"How can I convince people that inheritance is unjust?" thought Randall as he scrubbed his navel. "I've got it!" he shouted out loud, flinging suds on the cat, who fled yowling from the bathroom. "I can use a boardgame analogy!"

I would find the emerging dystopia much easier to bear if it wasn't presented like an episode of Barney the Dinosaur. Wrapping oppressive dictates in this affectedly folksy tone was really a masterfully clever trick, as any objection can be immediately dismissed as disproportionate. Colds are bad! We just want to help fewer people get colds! Don't you think colds are bad? Are you saying you want more people to get colds?
