I'm pretty sure the rhetorical device of "I'm not X,Y,Z but" is a defensive maneuver in a society where everybody's jumping up and down to be the next Cathy Newman. "So you're saying you think women are cattle?" No, and nothing in my argument even implied that. The fact that Randall is using that rhetorical device as a smell to imply badthink shows just what a small-minded bore (and boor, and maybe even boar?) he is.
