When I look back at the comics Randall just reuses, what strikes me now is that even the comparatively early ones have all the hallmarks of the tortuous samsara with which we have since grown so excruciatingly familiar. Even by #282 the basic template of "guy sitting at a computer struggling to make a pun about something he read on Wikipedia" was already firmly established.
